Program Overview
Your baby has grown and transformed into a toddler. The Eagles’ Nest K1 Classroom provides a safe, loving and nurturing environment for your precious toddler to grow and develop. Our caregivers use the High Reach Toddler Curriculum program to carefully plan one on one and small group activities important to each child’s developmental stage. Caregivers talk, play, sing, move, sign and read with your child. Conversation cards help toddlers expand their vocabulary and knowledge of the world around them and how they relate to it. This focus on interacting with real things and people enriches planned experiences for toddlers. Photographic books build vocabulary and language skills. Plush puppets keep toddlers fascinated and engaged in games and activities. Music CDs introduce the children to a world of music through sing-and-play-along songs, worship & classical music. Because language skills are still developing, we continue to use sign language to help toddlers communicate. Each evening you will receive a “Cuddle Gram” with information about your child’s mood, nap times, and teacher communication daily activities.
Environment
Entry Area - In order to keep our room as clean and sanitary as possible, Eagles’ Nest utilizes a Dutch door for drop off and pick up times. When preferred, you may communicate with K1 caregivers and drop off or pick up your child right at the door.
Personal Space - Each child is assigned a personal tub close to the entry area, for their personal belongings. Many parents choose to leave a change of clothes, and a blanket and pillow for nap time in their child’s tub. We recommend that you bring anything that your child will need to feel comfortable during the day.
Sleeping Times - Each child brings his/her own nap mat to use for nap time. Nap mats are sanitized after use each day and blankets and pillows are sent home to be washed each Friday.
Dramatic Play - Toddlers love to imitate familiar things in their lives. The dramatic play area includes a kitchen, dishes, food, and many other props they will need to pretend. Props are added or changed to enhance each monthly theme. Our caregivers regularly encourage this natural skill and ability through individual and group play.
Book Area - The book area is stocked with a variety of books that area available to the children at all times to encourage a love of books and reading.
Discovery Play - Sand or water play is messy, but the benefits your child will receive from these tactile activities are well worth the effort. Tactile activities are planned on a regular basis and often enforce the monthly learning theme.
Small Motor Play - Table toys help toddlers develop their small motor and coordination skills. These toys include large interlocking blocks and building blocks, and are available to the children at all times to foster a feeling of independence.
Large Motor Play - Weather permitting, the children have scheduled playground time each day. For days when the weather doesn’t cooperate, they have the opportunity to visit the gym, great room, or they play in their classroom.
Meal Times - Caregivers encourage as much self–feeding as possible, because toddlers need a lot of practice! Caregivers enjoy sitting & visiting with the children during meal and snack times.
Diapering Area - All wet diapers are changed on a regular basis throughout the day. Bowel movements are cleaned and changed quickly on an as needed basis. Caregivers use gloves for each individual diaper change in addition to sanitizing hands and the diaper changing station to avoid the spread of germs. Eagles’ Nest provides wet wipes, however if a certain brand is required, our caregivers will use and keep separate any wipes you provide for your child.
